Collect: The Presentation of the Lord

Presentation of the Lord. An icon.

On February 2nd in our Episcopal Lectionary (and the Revised Common Lectionary, too) we remember the Presentation of our Lord in the Temple (Luke 2:22-40). In today’s Collect we pray that we may come before God and be presented as those of pure and clean hearts. The prayer makes clear that it is Jesus who will present us; what is left to us: to live with the grace of God that creates the pure and clean heart within us. ~Fr. Dan

Almighty and everliving God, we humbly pray that, as your only-begotten Son was this day presented in the temple, so we may be presented to you with pure and clean hearts by Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
