To see beyond the present

Open the eyes of our faith…

Butterfly: a symbol of resurrection

Collect for Wednesday in Easter Week

O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Book of Common Prayer, p. 223

Despite living in an era of “fake news” and distrust, we continue to be Age-of-Reason people. We want empirical evidence, verifiable facts, real-world logic. Usually, we trust what we can see, touch, taste, smell, and hear. In our prayer today we ask that God broaden our senses, specifically, our sight. Like the disciples who recognized Jesus in the breaking of the bread, we ask to see beyond bread and cup, to see beyond the present moment and, with eyes of faith, behold—in an era of fake news and distrust—the redeeming work of Jesus Christ.   ~Fr. Dan

Be well. Do good. Pay attention. Keep learning.
